Oddly enough, here in the outback of Texas, an Estey Pipe Organ survives in an historic church 15 miles from me. I have had the opportunity to play it on occassion. The serial number has been identified apparently as 2095. I am curious as to what information exists concerning this instrument.

in approx 1973 i purchased an estey organ from a man in michigan who restored pump organs. he shipped it to me in california after building a crate for it. when it was delivered, the crate was brought into the house by ups end over end by the delivery company; loose pieces could be heard at each turn. i contacted the gentleman in michigan and he flew out to california and put everything back together again. it worked great. in 1981 we moved to a small cabin in the wilderness and there was not room for the organ; it was stored at a friend's residence for 26 years. we have retrieved it (moved from the wilderness) and it needs some work. specifically some of the decorative pieces fell off due to the glue drying out. i would like to replace them. where do i start? the gentleman from whom i purchased it said in approx 1973 that the organ was about 105 years old.

Popular Arbor Congregational Church, est 1909, has a Estey Organ in use every Sunday during music service. The organ's serial number is 437823. It has been wonderful to have for decades of services. The church is in search for a service manual or part manual for this paticular organ, for it still plays and sounds wonderful, although we want it to always be in the best possible usable condition. If there is any information on the age, model, part avalability, or anthing we could possible use in keeping this organ in good working condition please send. Please call me, 229-239-1122, or Deacon Joseph Lane, 229-782-5870, if there is any help you can provide our church. Thank you and God Bless

I have an Estey Pump Organ for sale. Research sets age near the turn of the 1900's possibly 1890-1910. One owner last 40+ years. It is a 5 octave keyboard - 11 musical stops. There is one key in lower octave and 2-3 in the upper octave that does not work with all stops. Functioning pump bellows & knee-activated controls which boost the sound & voice. Wood is in remarkable shape, but the carpet on the foot pedals show lots of wear. It measures approximately 78 inches tall, by 22” deep and 52” wide. Please call 919.413.0423

I was thrilled to be able to share the picture and information about August and Charles Gunzinger with my family. Charles is my great-grandfather. As a child I loved to listen to him play. Enjoyed looking at this site. Family Church in Allentown Pa had OP1585 St Stephen's Lutheran until 1967 when a rebuild was done by a local builder. About 80% of the original organ remained including the beautiful casework. In early 1990's a new console was added. Thanks again! Really enjoy this site!

It's great to read about past organs. I started on a small Wicks Pipe Organ at Ward Street Methodist Church in High Point NC as a youth. I have served mostly churches with digital organs. Hello,

I am writing to you to commend you on your webpage> I have had a career as an organist and pianist in the New York and New Jesey area since 1971. A friend of mine who is a Minister at the Westside United Methodist Church still has the remain facade and organ in place. I have had the aqaintance of the Wicks Organ, the Peragallo Organ, and the Cassavant Organ as well as many electronic instruments such as the Rodgers and the Saville. My main organ teacher just passed away this past May at the age of 98 and was the former organist at many congregations through out the New York Area including a stint at the Cathederal of St, John the Divine as assistant organist. His name was Victor Powell who lived music and life to the fullest. He was a great teacher and inspiration to us all here in Rockland County, N.Y. I have onley encountered one Estey Organ here in Nyack at theCommunity Church which has been closed and now serves as a community center. I believe the organ is still there and it is an Estey. I have also played the Odell Organ and the Kilgen Organ here in Stony Point and Haverstraw NY St. Peters in Haverstraw has an Estey I believe and it is still functioning. Is the company still in business and are you repairing, tuning and rebuilding? It would be good to hear from you.
Regards.

My aunt and uncle just recently sold their 1895 victorian home, and I very luckily came into posession of their Estey Parlor Organ. It was converted from foot to electric power some years ago, but otherwise seems nicely unmolested. The most unfortunate thing is that I can't date it 100%, as there is a piece of black fabric tape going right over the serial number! It is either 31600 or 316000. I figure on the latter, as I found an ad for a similar styled one for sale, which had the later serial number (Dating it between 1898 and 1900). Neat site, will visit often!

I have rebuilt a few 2 manual + pedal Estey reed organs in the 1960s. I was getting them for less than 50 $ each then! I now own three large Rodgers analog organs. Today, some people consider these analogs as vintage instruments....as where the Estey reed organs 50 years ago!....

I'm real happy to see a site dedicated to the Estey Organs. I was born in Proctor, VT and raised in Brattleboro, VT from 1964 to 1977. The Estey factory off Birge St. was a frequent hangout for my friends and I. I had the privilege of playing a few different Estey organs at local churches and residences over the years. Some day I'd like to buy an old Estey and restore it.

I have just purchased an Estey Electric Pump Organ from my local church. It is not working at this time and I am told that an organ company representative has said that there is nothing that can be done with it. I refuse to believe this. If it worked once, it can work again. 05 at 21:42:43 (EDT)

This is a terrific website. I became acquainted with the Estey name in the late 1940s, as a kid in school, and in 1962 visited the then empty factory site. I'm glad to see the Estey organs so well documented here and in a number of publications too.

Hello, I'm the current organist for Hawthorne Lane United Methodist Church in Charlotte NC and found the manufacturer of our previous organ! We have a 1954 Moller that was the replacement for the 1920 Estey: I had been looking in church archive files but was unable to find any information. We're getting ready to celebrate our 90th anniversary and I'll share this with our commitee. Our Opus number was 1813 and I'd like to also receive a copy of the facade drawings. Many thanks!

Great to see a site devoted to celebrating the international influence of the Estey organs. I have played them for churches and fun since I was 12. Best wishes.

Great site. Op. 3112 is installed at St. James Presbyterian Church in Harlem, 141st Street and St. Nicholas Ave. A friend and I restored it in '97. It is working well. Do you have any info on the organs at Jamaica High School in Jamaica, Queens, NY, and at St. Jerome RC Church in the Bronx? Thanks.

Great site and very informative. I have an Estey organ. It has been in my family for over 45 yrs. At this time, do not have any idea how old my organ is. It is in very good condition with the exception of material on the foot pedals. Just started researching today. Would love to hear from other Estey organ owners.

Enjoyed the site...had no idea Eetey was such an old and venerable Company. Were you aware that there is a large (church?) model Estey with a seperate player mechanism alive and well at "The Music House" in Traverse City, MI? This is quite a place with beautifully restored mechanical music makers of all shapes and sizes. Get there if you can. Regards, Jim

I was raised with marvelous Estey Pipe Organs. Installations where I have been privileged to play have mostly disappeared.
These in include: First Baptist Church (Southwest); the Way of the Cross Church of Christ; the Nineteenth Street Baptist Church all of Washington, DC. All the churches have been razed. Are there viable Estey Pipe Organs in the greater Washington, DC-Baltimore, MD areas. I can still hear the unmistakable warm tones that make my hair stand up.

I am fifth generation of Esteys. My father was Joseph Gray Estey. I was born and raised in Brattleboro. I live now in Guilford, Vt just 7 miles south of Brattleboro. This is a delightful webpage. I am happy that the organ company is getting the  interest especially in the pipe organs again.

The residence 2 organ appears to be an instrument that is located in the White House in Washington. I am making this judgement solely based on the decor and early Whitehouse photographs. In Florida, at the Henry Flagler home is a similar decor but the Organ there is behind a screen.

I grew up playing theopus 3007 which was located at the Clemson Presbyterian Church until about 1980. It was supposedly then sold or given to a church in Brazil. There are also Esteys at the National Conservatories of Argentina and Chili. The SOuth American Instruments are unplayable. The Clemson Church Organ had diapasons that sounded more like honking car horns. The best part for me were the string stops which were rich in tin. To the best of my knowledge this was a tracker Instrument. I had been led to believe that this Organ was installed in the 1910 period but indications seem to indicate that it was built in 1931. Other instruments in the area were and are one at the Walhalla Methodist Church which was placed in a basement. Another comment on this site states that he had acquired such and istrument which maybe the same instrument. It's diapasons also tended to honk. The Greenville Women's College is no longer in exsitence and presumably it's Estey. This College became part of Furman University. Furman no longer has any of it's previous Organs but does have a Walter Hopltcamp (sp)masterpiece which was the last Organ that Walter personally worked on and supervised it's erection. I will be checking for the existence of other such Organs in the area and post here.

op 1116 was in my home church, Arkansas ( City) KS.My mother, aunt, and I all served as organists at one time or another. Organ was electrified in the early '50's and sold ( building was demolished) sometime in the 70's. I was told a doctor from OK bought the organ at auction. I knew op 447 in Winfield KS, mostly in it's incarnation as a 1948 Austin rebuild. It was sold( or scrapped) a year or so ago was on OCH list for a while. When in college in San Francisco, my main practice organ was an Estey in a small church on Haight St ( pre-Hippie), I haven't been able to identify it on op lit, I think it had been moved there. Further college work in Philadelphia had me as organist-c'master at S. Philly's St Elisabeth's Estey ( early 1900's) again I've been unable to identify it in the op list, it also was probably moved to the church as a 2nd location.

I removed Estey Op. 2775 from its original location as listed in the opus list, and managed to save the original contract between the church and Estey as well. Plans having changed about my use for the organ, I sold it last year to a young man in Pennsylvania for installation in his home. Its a wonderful instrument,,and I am glad I got to play it before I removed it from the church. Even tho I am older now, I will be helping the present owner with the installation wherever I can.

I am the current owner of Estey 2535. Around 1980 this organ installed in a basment, was flooded with hot water. Most damage was to the chests. Most pipe work was OK and that was what I wanted for my pipe organ. I like Estey pipes.

We hope to have back in working order by Christmas this year.

Thank you for your labors. An impressive list! The first pipe organ I ever heard was an Estey at the Presbyterian Church of Teaneck, NJ. It was there in 1953, when I first played it, and remained there until the Organ Committee purchased a two-manual Schlicker in the early 1970's.

My grandfather, Fred Anderson (immigated from Sweden in the 1880s), worked at Estey I believe in the '20s and '30s. I'm not sure what he did, but he had good carpenter tools and I know I've heard he helped make the bellows. His family (my mother was his second daughter) grew up in Brattleboro and I visited there often when I was young. If there is a roll of company workers throughout the years, I would be very interested in seeing that. Thanks for your hard work on this site.
